  • Requested feedback for SRS of Rasterizer & Layout Engine developed for Mobile platform to seamlessly support Indian languages on the mobiles


  • TDIL Programme & W3C India initiative intends to get free type based Rasterizer & Layout Engine developed for Mobile platform to seamlessly support Indian languages on the mobiles.This engine will be made available under open source to the mobile manufacturers/Mobile OS / Mobile VAS / any other mobile related applications developers.

  • It is requested that SRS may be reviewed that these developments are widely used by the mobile industry.

  • a) Do you agree with the projected timelines? Alternatively suggest how the developments can be parallelized & what should be the ideal timeline ?

  • b) Whether you would be interested in integrating this engine in your sphere of business & how ?
  •  
  • c) Would you like to become a part of the development team so that parallely the reference implementation can be carried out in your domain to hasten the development cycle ?
  •  
  • d) Should the engine support only open type fonts or is there a requirement to support true type fonts also in view of desktops moving to Unicode & Open type fonts in the interest of interoperability ?

  • e) What kind of encoding standards are currently used by mobile industry ?
  •  
  • f) What are the standardization activities which you perceive should be taken up for enablement of Indian languages on mobile devices ?
